The Rapport7 Assessment Map
Seven dimensions. One picture. Know exactly where the therapeutic relationship needs your attention — before you walk into the room.
The Seven Dimensions
Rapport isn't one thing. It's a system — seven interconnected dimensions that rise and fall together. When one weakens, the others feel it. The Rapport7 Map gives you a way to see the whole picture, not just the part that's loudest in the room.
Rate each dimension for a specific client or situation. The radar chart shows you the shape of the relationship — where it's strong, where it's thin, and where your next session should focus.
Stabilize
How safe does this feel?
The foundation. Before anything therapeutic can happen, the client needs to feel that this space — and you — are safe enough to be honest in.
Join
How much do they feel I'm with them?
Not agreement. Not mirroring. The felt sense that you understand their position — even the parts they haven't said yet.
Surface
How much of the real story is on the table?
What's been spoken, what's been hinted at, what's still hidden. The gap between what they say and what's actually happening.
Reframe
How open are they to new meanings?
Can they consider a different story about what's happening? Or is the current narrative locked in place?
Align
How shared do our goals feel?
Are you working toward the same thing? Or are there two agendas in the room — yours and theirs?
Commit
How solid are their commitments?
Words are easy. Are they doing the work between sessions? Is the commitment in their body or just their mouth?
Integrate
How consistent is this over time?
One good session doesn't mean it's working. Integration is the change that holds — across sessions, across contexts.
